Akani Energy was founded in September 2014 as a subsidiary of the Akani Group of Companies and to take advantage of investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector. We invest in both greenfield and brownfield renewable energy projects in Southern Africa, including Lesotho, Botswana, eSwatini and other SADC states.

The immediate need and investment opportunity was to mitigate the loadshedding energy crisis in SA which has been the major cause of trade disruptions and loss of sales at the shopping centres owned and managed by Akani Properties, a subsidiary of the Akani Group of companies.
With the intensifying efforts to boost SA’s energy capacity and transition our energy sources from coal to renewables, Akani Energy is well positioned to play a catalytic role to raise the necessary capital for SA’s energy generation capacity.
